On the day of your abortion, please arrive promptly. During your appointment you will be busy having lab tests done, an ultrasound, meeting with a healthcare worker. Plan to be at the Health Center for approximately 2 hours for your medical abortion appointment. If you are here for a surgical abortion, plan on being at the Health Center for 4-5 hours.
Once you have made your SURGICAL abortion procedure appointment, please download, print, read, and complete the following set of forms: Instructions for your Surgical Abortion Appointment
Once you have made your MEDICAL abortion (by pill) appointment, please download, print, read, and complete the following set of forms: Instructions for your Medical Abortion Appointment
Our Health Center is a secure facility and we keep our doors locked at all times. You will be asked to show photo ID when you arrive. If you bring a support person with you, she/he will also have to show photo ID. Purses and bags are not permitted into the building. Please put anything you need to carry inside in a small paper or plastic bag.
We recommend that all clients eat a light meal if possible before coming to your appointment. Some of the medications you may be taking are better tolerated when your stomach is not empty. Also, as a surgical patient, you will also recover more quickly from the procedure if you've eaten. Do Not use any street drugs (cocaine, heroin, etc.) for at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.
What should I bring to the appointment?
Bring the following with you:
- Your completed paperwork (this will be mailed to you when you make your appointment or click the appropriate link above to download them here.)
- A first morning urine sample in any clean container (feel free to bring the container in a small brown paper or plastic bag)
- Quarters for the parking meter (the meters are .$25 per 20 minutes) - we only have on-street parking
- Photo identification (anyone accompanying you will need an ID as well)
- Your fee in the form of a cashier's check, money order, cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover (debit or cred card) OR your insurance card and co-payment/deductible if you are using your insurance.
How do I pay for the abortion?
At the time you make your appointment, we will do our best to accurately quote your fee. Payment is expected on the day of your appointment. However, occasionally there are unanticipated services, such as additional lab work or medications. Please be prepared for any additional charges upon checkout. We accept cashier's checks, money orders, cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover (debit or cred card) OR your insurance card and co-payment/deductible/co-insurance if you are using your insurance.
Insurance – Many insurance plans cover the costs for an abortion. We accept Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Health Care, MVP, Harvard Pilgrim and some local school and college plans. We are a Medicaid provider – however, Medicaid does not cover abortion except in very rare instances.
When you make your appointment, you will provide us with your insurance information so that we can contact your insurance company to verify your coverage. We will notify you to let you know if all or a portion of your visit will be covered by your insurance. Please note that in some cases your abortion may be covered, but the fee will be applied to your annual deductible so you will have an out of pocket expense.
If you use an insurance company we are not contracted with, you can call the insurance company yourself to find out if they would cover your procedure. We can give you an itemized receipt to submit to them once you have paid the full and customary fee.
PLEASE NOTE: Though we cannot accept personal checks for the full abortion fee, we do accept them for smaller charges that may be incurred outside of the normal fee, such as additional lab work and medications. We appreciate your understanding.
